JEDDAH: Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal on Sunday inspected ongoing projects in the city of Jeddah, with a total cost of SR2.5 billion ($666 million).
Accompanied by Jeddah Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Majed, the prince was briefed by the projects’ supervisors on progress, completion rates and dates of the projects.
The inspection tour started at the Jeddah Dome project, the largest spherical dome in the world, occupying 308,000 square meters.
The dome will host all local and international exhibitions, conferences, and events. The hall spans 34,618 square meters and its height is 46 meters. The project’s parking area can accommodate 5,200 vehicles.
His tour also included a visit to the Prince Majed Park development project, which occupies 120,000 square meters and is 82 percent complete. The park includes a 900-square-meter walkway and a children’s play area exceeding 9,000 square meters.
He then visited the waterfront development in South Obhur, which ccupies 180,000 square meters and has public squares and 2,800-meter-long footpaths.
Next stop was the tunnel being constructed at the intersection of Prince Muhammad bin Abdul Aziz Street and Madinah Road. The project has a completion rate of 70 percent and aims to improve traffic flow.
Prince Khaled then visited the Lake Al-Arbaeen project, which is being developed by the Ministry of Culture in cooperation with the Jeddah municipality. The project includes green landscapes and pedestrian paths.
At the end of the tour, the governor visited the control room of the Al-Salam Tunnel project, which has a completion rate of 99 percent.
After the tour, he presided over a meeting of the local council at the premises of the governorate to discuss ways and mechanisms to accelerate backlog projects.
