JEDDAH: More than 50 members of the Saudi National Committee of Workers Committees (SNCWC) benefited from a two-day workshop on the rights, responsibilities and legal frameworks regarding combating human trafficking.
Organized by the Saudi Human Rights Commission’s National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking (NCCHT) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the workshop was part the SNCWC’s mandate to safeguard labor rights in the Kingdom.
Nasser Al-Jaryad, SNCWC chairman and chair of this year’s Labor20, one of the G20’s engagement groups, opened the event by affirming the SNCWC’s importance in combating human trafficking.
“It’s the committee’s mission to promote human rights in general and workers’ rights in particular. We take this mission very seriously, and we take the fight against trafficking very seriously,” he said.
Experts from various organizations participated in the training sessions.
“The IOM will spare no effort in continuing to support the Saudi anti-trafficking committee in carrying out its tasks successfully,” said Mohammed Zarkani, head of the IOM mission in Bahrain.
“We’re glad to be a key partner in the Kingdom’s effort, and we hope to build on recent momentum for the coming years.”
Sarah Al-Tamimi, vice chair of the NCCHT, said the SNCWC “has an important role to play here. Their access and insights are invaluable to the protection of workers and the fight against trafficking at large. We look forward to building on this fruitful partnership.”
